When someone asks if you’re a god you say YES!

Went out last night to catch one of the final showings of the Ghostbusters re-release. There was about a dozen people in my theatre, and about half of them had never seen the movie before (college-age kids, mostly), so it was fun to watch the movie with people seeing it for the first time. You could tell that the studio had done a little work on it, the picture seemed clearer and brighter than I ever recalled it from when I was younger. I even noticed a sight-gag that I’d never spotted before – in the scene where the guys accidentally blow up the housekeeper’s cart, they turn away to do a bit of dialogue and in the background the housekeeper is trying to put out one of the flaming toilet rolls with a spray bottle.

On the way out of the theater I overheard one of the audience talking to a couple members of the staff. They were asking how it was because they had never seen it either, but one of them had heard “that the second one is better” to which the audience member said “There’s a second one?”

I just had to leave before I said anything. I’m kind of glad Gill had decided to stay home, I’m sure she would have them away from Ghostbusters II.

California interlude 1

Took the afternoon off yesterday to go catch a movie at the nearby movie theater. Andy by nearby, I mean I can see the building from my bedroom window (so weird). Saw Red 2. Eight bucks for a matinee, that’s just nuts. On the plus side, concessions seem to be cheaper than they were back in PA.
The movie itself was okay. Not as great as the first one, still a lot better than most action flicks. It looked like everyone but Bruce Willis was having a great time getting together again & making the movie and he was only there because he had to be.

Safeway’s store-brand Cheerios taste pretty good, but they have texture of Captain Crunch. I never expected to tear up the roof of my mouth to the taste of nuts and honey.

And the best part of apartment living out here is that we get a constant stream of mail for previous tenants. So far I’ve been marking it “Return to Sender” and “No longer at this address”, hoping it’ll stem the tide over time. I know we still got mail for the prior tenant at our old place for years.

Unusually absent crossover fanfic

Still working on the mega-posts for Scotland and Camelot, but I’ll leave you all with this thought: A couple nights ago we watched Clue on Netflix, and Gill wondered if there was any Clue/Rocky Horror Picture Show crossover fanfic. My cursory look through the internet says no. So I wonder, why not?

Writer’s Block: The Hunger Games

As a kid I would have loved to have seen an adaptation of Diane Duane’s So You Want to Be a Wizard. As an adult I’m afraid it would have gotten so screwed up, especially back in the late eighties and early nineties.
Now, I think I’d still be tickled to see an adaptation of Bunnicula or The Westing Game, although I think the latter would be better as a mini-series.
