- A gallery of some of the more impressive animal hybrids. There are two things to take away from this: 1) Most of these animals, no matter how silly they look, can still kill you just as easily as either parent, and 2) Lions can mate with just about any large cat and produce some impressive offspring.

- What happens if you try to host a Christmas party using the right ingredients but the wrong utensils? This, this is what you get. The Egg, by Andy Weir
A short note, now that I have LiveJournal working on my laptop again (if things started looking weird for you in the last couple of days, check that Ghostery isn’t blocking a site tracker named “Live Journal”.)
A few days ago another board I frequent asked people to post things they found online that gave them comfort and/or inspiration. I found this story a while ago upon rediscovering Andy Weir (after Casey and Andy finished I kind of lost track of his stuff until The Martian was released) and I can see why it was one of the most popular stories he’d ever written. There’s a simple message of hope that I find quietly irresistible.

Recommendations
Two things I highly enjoyed this last week:
1) “A Stranger” by Humbabella – I think this captures the horror of what traveling through time would really be like.
2) Mini Metro by Dinosaur Polo Club – This is a really addictive game that gives you the chance to design your own subway system. You can add extra lines, tunnel under the river, and reconstruct the entire system at a whim – as long as you keep the commuters happy. My record so far is Wednesday of the fourth week.
It’s in pre-release alpha right now so there’s still plenty of features to come but I’m already addicted. You can play in the browser, or download a standalone version for Windows, Mac, or Linux. They’re also in contention to have the game available on Steam.
