This still counts as Thursday!

This still counts as Thursday since I just got back from loading out the Trans-Siberian Orchestra from their appearance here in Erie.  And loading in, for that matter.  I’ll talk more about that tomorrow, but now I want to discuss advertising here on Livejournal.

What in the hell makes LJ think that I would be interested in an Indian marriage website (not a dating site, mind you) or laser-engraved tombstones for pets?  Are they just picking things at random?  The only ad I’ve ever seen for anything remotely making sense is an ad for a lighting designer down in Jacksonville.  Not really interesting to me, but at least I can see how they thought it might be.  To be fair though, it was an LJ ad that led me to find Travian, this nifty little browser-based war/civilization game.  But still, I can’t see any clear connection between my listed interests and my having seen that ad.

So yeah, just odd and sort of bewildering.

Cocoa snowflakes

Gillian and I made these cookies just before Christmas this year.  She got the recipe from the Penzey’s Spice catalog and they are absolutely incredible.  Soft, delicious, melt in your mouth kind of cookies.  It’s like eating the edge of the brownie tray with every bite.  Here’s the recipe as I sent it to my Mom.

A timeline

Two or three months ago – Gillian and I decide we’d like to buy a Wii

Sunday – Discover wiialerts.com.  Sign up.

Tuesday morning – Get a text message alerting me to Wiis available on Amazon.  Go ahead and purchase one.

Wednesday night (one hour ago) – E-mail from Amazon saying Wii has been shipped from Philadelphia.  Probably arrive tomorrow.

Winter!!!!

It started at 30 degrees this morning and only got colder.  Winds are gusting close to fifty miles an hour.  There’s a dusting of snow on the ground.  I’m wearing two pairs of socks.  This is the first day in months that I’ve actually felt cold.

It’s not just the snow on the ground but the clouds in the sky as well.  If it was only 30 degrees but looked like the hottest day in July I don’t think I’d feel so cold.
