Normally I’d try to be witty here, but I don’t have it in me right now

crossposted to my journal and to Coupling.

So I watched the American version of Coupling this evening, and my first impression was that it was much funnier than the preceeding episode of Will and Grace.
Yes, I knew most of the lines, and I was interested to find how some things had been changed, but the thing that really got to me, I think, was the pace.

It was just too damn fast.

And I think the problem there is that, despite the extra running time and the amount of material that had been removed, they still tried to fit in as much as possible from the British script, and it just couldn’t fit. I think (hope) that in later episodes they’ll be able to spread things out a bit better, either by complete removal of sub-sections, or by better integration of original and re-written scripts.

Other than that, there are a few things that struck me. I found Patrick’s “condom line” to be quite clever, actually. Jane was particularly funny, if a bit over-squealy. And truthfully, there had to have been a better analogy to “The Boyfriend Zone” than “In and Out” of the club.

I’m not ready to condemn it yet. I’ve told loads of people to watch Coupling, and hopefully they did. I want to hear some reactions from people who never saw the original.

Finally! At fucking last!

Finally. I’ve been waiting to see this movie for almost a year, ever since I first heard about it. It’s being released in November, right near Thanksgiving break. I can go see it with Gill, that would be awesome.

For anyone who follows these links, the American trailer up at the Apple site doesn’t hold a candle to the original French one, which is almost a mini-film in and of itself. If you ask nicely enough, I can burn a copy of that and send it along. I’ve heard wonderful things about this movie from so many different film festivals. I can hardly wait.

Holy Crap!

Somebody just invented an ethernet card for the Commodore 64! In addition, the new operating system it runs under can be installed on all kinds of old gaming systems like the Nintendo, Gameboy, and even several Atari’s. The fact that the C-64 release come on a 5.25 inch disk is not only funny to me, but amazing. I didn’t know you could still find 5.25 inch disks for the C-64, let alone ofr any computer system.

My only question is: Who in the hell would try to surf the internet on a Commodore 64? Yes, I love my old C-64. It’s got the best version of Tetris ever! But a lot of the things I do online have files so much larger than the 64K of memory it has. Hell, some of my e-mail is larger than that.

Hmmm….

So I just downloaded a new Livejournal client to my computer. So far I like it much better than the one I was using before. The entry box is much bigger, all the stuff like mood, music, and subject are all in one place. The only thing I’m not so sure about is the privacy function. It doesn’t seem to have downloaded any of my friends groups. Oh well, maybe in a later release.

P.S. Neat thing too. It uses the Microsoft Word spellchecker to check my posts. Which means no more having ot argue that my name is really a word.
