Awesome, I got a shout out on the latest episode of Kevin and Ursula Eat Cheap. Listen around the 10:20 mark.

- The Hidden History Of Same-Sex Marriage In Asia
Just what it says on the tin. Also includes a nice discussion about how the pursuit of rights for lgbtqa people in First World nation is having an averse impact on those elsewhere.
- Crunchyroll – New Photos from Live-Action “Kiki’s Delivery Service” Reveal Kiki’s Mother
Oooh, this’ll be interesting. I hope they’re making a more faithful adaptation of the book as opposed to the Studio Ghibli film from a few years ago.

- This animation of Calvin and Hobbes’ famous dance is pure gold
The video seems to have been knocked offline, but the animated GIF still looks good.
- Daily Herald – NW Suburbs, Saturday, November 23, 2013 – Olive Software
I absolutely love the way this newspaper has developed their online edition. There’s still a regular website, but you can also access an electronic version of the physical newspaper. Pages are laid out just like they are on paper, you can zoom in and scroll around, double click to get a copy/pasteable version, and can share a link to that specific article. Advertisers in the physical edition get their ad placed in the electronic edition as well and it even includes a one-click translation service.

A specific article in today’s e-edition. I wonder if this link will still work in a couple weeks.

I’m really interested in seeing what kind of technology is behind these glowing stones and how long they’ll last.
Found it! It’s a product called Starpath from a UK company called Pro-Teq. No details on durability or how long the UV-absorbing materials will last.
Man, I wish this was around nine years ago when I was in grad school. It would have made on of my outdoor lighting projects much more feasible.
The era of my cyber-arm is rapidly drawing to a close
And I couldn’t be happier. I had another follow-up appointment with the doctor on Monday. According to him my x-rays look good, so we’re scheduling the surgery to remove my fixator as soon as possible. With luck I’ll have it off before Thanksgiving. It’s been an interesting experience having this device attached to my arm.

Scary!
Just a quick update. The Frankenstein costume went off pretty well.

It’s a shame that we only had three kids come to the door. I guess the qualities that make this such a wonderfully peaceful apartment mean it’s unlikely to get visited for Halloween. Next year we just won’t buy as much candy. And speaking of candy, I got a big laugh when I saw the bag of lollipops we got to add a non-chocolate option.
I can understand that they were proud to share their new flavors, but at a quick glance it looks like the bag reads “2 New Flavors of Major Allergens!” which is just horrible.
Michagain J Frog, eat your heart out!
Last week I started hearing this odd buzzing-chirping noise coming from the corner of the dining room with the aquarium and phone and stereo. At first I thought it was the fluorescent light on the aquarium, then maybe the batteries in the phone handset, then maybe the surge protector the stereo is plugged into. None of these turned out to be the case. But last night I fed the frog (Frederick {pronounced Fro-der-ick) von Frogenstein) and when he pressed himself against the glass the chirping continued for a long while.
“No way,” I thought. “No way is that tiny inch and a half frog making a noise that I can hear halfway across the apartment.” But I looked it up and African Dwarf frog males do indeed “sing” and videos on YouTube sounded just like what we heard! So here is Frederick von Frogenstein’s YouTube debut!

- Â Passport to Dreams Old & New: Raising – or Lowering? – the Dead
I’ve always been a bit fascinated by the detailed obsession some people have for Disney’s Haunted Mansion. I suppose it’s no different than any other kind of obsession, but for some reason it amuses me more than, for instance, nineteenth century Victorian kid’s books.
- â–¶ Turn Pennies Silver and Gold (Chemistry Trick) – YouTube
Neat trick, will have to try it sometime if I ever have access to chemistry equipment again.

This looks like it could be handy – get a syndicated feed of your Facebook news feed. I wonder if it only grabs public posts, or if it can grab friends-locked posts as well.
- Bollywood Steampunk : Salkcity Photo Shoot by MakeupSiren on deviantART
Really well done original steampunk costume. It’s nice to see something that’s not just ‘Victorian with brass’ but actually draws from other world cultures.
- bunn – An Unearthly Bookshop
Fun little account of an “occult and psychology” bookshop in an isolated little village in England. One of those tiny used bookshops that is equally likely to feature in a mystery, horror, comedy, or drama film, where you’re not sure if the proprietors are entirely there. Or human.

- Ep. 5 Hannah Hart – Ear Biscuits by Ear Biscuits on SoundCloud – Hear the world’s sounds
Great interview with Hannah Hart of ‘My Drunk Kitchen’. Low on comedy but high on thoughtful discussions about childhood responsibility, sexuality and religion, parental relationships, and giving back to the world once you’ve secured yourself.
