Day Six – The Live Show
I have been lucky enough to go see a live show. This past January, as part of the San Francisco Sketch-Fest, I saw the evening performance at the Marines Memorial Theater. I got to meet Hal Lublin before the show (and got him to sign a poster I’d bought that night). I got to see “Emperor of Mars” with Karen Gillan and Dave Foley, “The Wright Stuff” with John DiMaggio, and “Prelude to a Fish” which I though was the greatest (“We’re emotionally invested in their relationship. Ribbit.”) I really hope I get to see the show again before we move back East.
Day Twenty-one – Musical Associations
Sparks Nevada, Marshall on Mar – Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi
Mars might seem fairly civilized, with a Marshall and a Mayor and relatively simple access to the rest of the Solar System, but it’s still a lawless place. For the native inhabitants it’s undergone a lot of change in a short time, and for those outside the mainstream of society it’s still easy to live on the edge. I think this song covers all of that nicely.
Amelia Earhart, Fearless Flyer – Caravan performed by Duke Ellington and his Orchestra, with Ella Fitzgerald
I like to think that Amelia has a record with this song in her Lockheed Electra and played it one time when she took Abby out to dinner.
Beyond Belief – Red Right Hand by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
If you aren’t Frank or Sadie or the Hendersons I think the world they live in would be a very scary place. And I think it’d be very simple to get caught up in and overrun by the events that our heroes just shrug off. This song embodies that fear and sense of helplessness.
