While cleaning my room I came across an article from Artvoice about police brutality against the monthly Critical Mass bike ride. Now, as an avid bike rider I was rather disturbed to read about how bicyclists are treated in my city. And I was even more disturbed, even sickened, to find out how deep the problem ran.
I followed a link at the bottom of the article to the website of the author, Michael I. Niman. He had written several articles about the incident, in addition to his regular column in Artvoice. He talks about police brutality, perjury, discrimination, deep seated hate, and even McCarthy style political investigations.
http://mediastudy.com/articles/#local is a listing where you can find all of Dr. Niman’s articles on local Buffalo matters. His columns on the Critical Mass incident of last May are well marked.
Frankly, I’m glad that I don’t really on just one news outlet for my daily fix of What’s Going On in the World. news.google.com and my own customized collection of RSS feeds really help to give me a good scope of what’s happening. What was it about democracy and a well educated public? I’ll have to look that one up.
